walt disney world…

September 16, 2009

in not too long we’ll be headed off to florida to walt disney world for a week.
i’ve never been to disney world, or florida for that matter. so, i was going to ask all of you this..
any recommendations on really neat things to do there? we have tickets to all the parks, so we’ll be there most of the time. i’d just love to know what you liked, didn’t like. any cool nearby things [we’ll have a rental car] we may drive to the beach one day as well.
anyhow, any fun ideas, tips, good shopping places, eating places.. all the good stuff… would be appreciated!

oh how fun! You guys are going to love it!

If you have tickets to all the parks, you will have plenty of fun stuff to do. They are quite spectacular! Downtown Disney is pretty fun in the evening too. Lots of great shops and restaurants.

    I'm so jealous!

When you go to Animal Kingdom, I would go first thing in the morning and head straight to the back of the park to the Safari–you'll see the most animals first thing in the morning. Disney is so great with little ones–they have fabulous baby care centers in each park; they all have nice quiet rooms where you can nurse and change your baby. We love Disney World, you'll have a blast!

Have you checked out the Dis Boards? Everything you could have ever wanted to know about "doing Disney," you'll find there! Google DisBoards and it should come right up. 🙂 Have fun!

A favorite of mine on trips to Disney is to look for "hidden Mickeys" The imagineers at the park his Mickey images (the 3 cirles that look like a head and ears) all over the park, like in tilework or in the background of murals. It's a fun thing to do while you're waiting in line for rides. My hubby and I also LOVED the Toy Story ride in Hollywood Studios. It has long lines but is super fun. And lastly, take advantage of the Fast Passes for the popular rides- it will save you tons of time in line. Have a great time!

You should have waited another month. October and March are the best times to come. Cooler weather and few tourists. Bring lots of sunscreen.
    We are season pass holders.
Fast passes are the best tip. For the rides you don't have fast passes for, bring bribery treats for your little one. We give all our kids small fanny packs with a water bottle, lollipops (or starbursts, etc.), granola bar and an apple. Saves on food money too.
Snow White is a scarier ride than you think for a small child.
The People Mover in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kindgom is a great place to nurse your baby, and it's still sort of a ride for your older child.
You must have a frozen lemonade at Animal Kingdom, which is the best of the 4 parks anyway. 🙂
Epcot has great sit-down restaurants in each of the "countries" there.
Cocoa Beach is a straight shot East on the Beachline (SR 528) but it's worth the extra 20 minutes to drive to Daytona, specifically Ponce Inlet, and you can drive on most of the beaches there, which is convenient with little kids and lots of gear.
    Have Fun!

We love going there with our kids. (9 and 7) We really like to go to Epcot at night to catch the fireworks. We go to Italy to grab some gelato for the kids and head back to france for a tasty beer or glass of wine and watch the show. The kids really like to go to "club cool" it's just a little shop that has free samples ofcoca cola type soft drinks from all over the world. You can sample them yourself with little dixie cups they provide. Make sure you catch the ride "SOARIN" and "Test Track" There are so many things to do I can't list them all-these are just a few for Epcot.

We just got back from a week long trip yesterday – it is truly magical – you will LOVE it. My kids are ages 8 & 4 – 40 inches is the height requirement for most of the rides, with a few exceptions of course. The Dinoland ride in Animal Kingdom is quite scary – neither of my adventurous kids enjoyed it so beware with that one. The Toy Story ride at Hollywood Studios is definately worth the time in line. It was really the only ride that had more than a 5 to 10 minute wait with Fast passes. Fast passes give you a specific time to return to ride however, they do not expire – you can use them anytime after the time on the printed card. You can also get a ride share pass that is good for 3 passengers if you have children that can't ride due to height or age requirements – that gets you in the fast pass line too. Also, try to go to Fantasmic at Hollywood Studios it is amazing. The highlight of our trip was dining at Cinderella's Royal Table in the castle – totally worth the investment and everything about Epcot is fun. The breakfast buffet at Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary Hotel is wonderful too. We purchased the plastic souvenier sport bottles at the magic kingdom for about $4.50 each, they are not refillable however, they do give you free ice and/or water. SOrry so long – I guess I'm still just eluding Disney magic – we can't wait to go back! If you have any questions I'll be happy to answer.
