spider web cake...

{photo from country living}

last year, i made this spider web cake, from country living for my husband's birthday. it turned out really great! well, maybe not as professional as the country living one, but still good!

the frosting was surprisingly easy too! i love a good chocolate ganache.

crunchy doughnut eyeballs...

i love these little doughnut hole eye balls.

just might be the perfect last minute halloween treat!

{crunchy doughnut hole eyeballs}
recipe and photo from here

ingredients

20 glazed doughnut holes.
1 cup(s) premier white morsels2 tablespoon(s) solid vegetable shortening.
20 Life Savers Gummies®
20 medium mini candy-coated milk chocolate candies, M&M’s Minis®
2 drop(s) red food coloring

directions

Line cookie sheet with parchment paper or waxed paper. Cut 1/8-inch-thick slices from 2 opposite sides of each doughnut hole.
Melt white morsels and vegetable shortening in top of double boiler or in a microwave-safe bowl in microwave.
Working with one doughnut hole at a time, use a fork to dip into melted morsels mixture to coat. Lift coated doughnut holes from coating, shaking excess melted morsels mixture back into bowl. Place coated doughnut holes, one cut-side down, on prepared cookie sheet.
Place jellied candies on top of doughnuts. Dab chocolate candies with some of remaining melted morsels mixture and press onto jellied candies. Chill in refrigerator for 10 minutes or until coating is set.

In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of remaining melted morsels mixture and 2 drops of red food coloring. Using toothpick, paint colored morsels mixture onto doughnut eyeballs to resemble scary veins.

Chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

dinner menu...

for the last little while i've been trying to plan my dinner menu for the week in advance. some weeks i do really well, some not so much.

but, when i do get them all planned out it makes my life so much easier because i already have a list of things to cook for the week, and my grocery list is planned and i don't have to make a million last minute trips to the store. which in the end saves a lot of time and money.

i usually make a list of about 4-5 dinners i'd like to eat that week. i don't have each day planned in case i feel like a certain meal a certain day, but i do make sure i have all of the ingredients ready for all the meals. it also helps if somehow the ingredients can blend a little so i don't waste fresh produce and such.

anyhow, here's this weeks menu: [click on title for links to recipes]

halloween party invites...

need a good last minute halloween party invite?

i made these fun ones last year for my hubbies halloween birthday bash.

the witch finger cookies made them extra fun with a string around the finger telling your guest not to "forget" about the party.

life...

wow! i know i'm a broken record, but things have been so busy around my house lately.

i feel like i haven't been able to keep up on things ever since coming back from vacation. ever feel that way?

anyhow, i've been preparing for norah's big blessing day and luncheon this past sunday, so that has kept me busy. i'll share some pics later this week.

another thing that has been keeping me busy, and in the bathroom much more than i'd like, is potty training my little z man. he's starting to get the hang of it, thank goodness. so, i hope it continues. i figure i'll give it a good try for a week, then decide if he's really ready. it's only been a few days, and he's gone in the potty a lot, but also a few accidents.

but, he sure looks cute in his big boy undies..

oh, and p.s. don't forget to check out my latest post about the epcot food and wine festival over on the zupas blog. click here.

recovering...

just got back from a week long vacation at disneyworld in florida. we had the best time! so tiring, but fun!

so, hopefully i'll be back soon, once i've recovered... and, my piles of laundry get done.

today i'm just trying to relax and recover a bit. the suitcases are still hanging out on the floor and the mr. is picking up dinner from cafe rio!

oh! and, guess who i ran into late last night at the airport? ms stephanie [nie nie herself]! she was just beautiful, and as nice as can be! i was a bit flustered waiting with my two kiddos and three large suitcases. she was a doll and asked if i needed any help since my husband was off getting the car. what a sweetheart. i'm glad she's doing so well! did you catch her on oprah today? what an amazing person!

the kiwi fruit...

did you know that the kiwifruit has:

-twice the amount of vitamin C as an orange.
-more potassium than a banana.
-more fiber than a bowl of bran.
