Fall Cupcakes
Can you believe it’s already Halloween this week?  I feel like Fall is really flying by this year, and we still have to visit the local Pumpkin patch!  Pretty soon, it will be Christmas!
Sometimes with the abundance of Fall activities, we don’t always have the time to whip up a homemade treat, but I think a semi-homemade treat is just fine every now and again when things get busy and you need to bring a last minute treat to a Halloween party.
So, here’s my solution!  I made cupcakes using a store bought spice cake mix, then I frosted them with some homemade Pumpkin Buttercream frosting.  The frosting makes the cupcake anyhow in my opinion!  Sometimes semi-homemade is the perfect solution!  Check out the recipe for homemade pumpkin buttercream frosting below!  It is amazing on cupcakes, as a filling, or for frosting a cake!

2 sticks unsalted butter, softened

½ cup pumpkin puree
1 tbs pumpkin pie spice
Pinch of sea salt
1lb 9 oz confectioner’s sugar, sifted
1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
Fall Cupcakes
1) Cream the butter, salt, pumpkin puree, and pumpkin spice for about 2 minutes.  Slowly add the confectioners sugar ½ a cup at a time with a paddle attachment on the stand mixer on medium speed.  Mix until light and fluffy and combined, about 5 minutes, add vanilla bean paste.
Frost or pipe the cupcakes with the Pumpkin Butter Cream. I used this extra large French star tip to pipe them on! I thought it gave a cute look! I topped mine with these little mallow creme pumpkin candies to finish the look!

Be sure to store the cupcakes in the fridge, and pipe just before serving. With real pumpkin puree in the frosting, they can change consistency if left out a while.

DIY // Glow in the Dark Skeleton Costume Tutorial

October 20, 2015

We are getting ready for Halloween over at our house, and when I asked my four year old what he would like to be for Halloween this year, he immediately replied, “A Skeleton!!”  I was happy to oblige!  I just love a classic Halloween Costume!
I’m the type of mom that loves a good DIY project, and while I know you can purchase a skeleton costume, a handmade touch to my kids’ costumes is always SO much fun for me!  I love that you can add a little bit of a unique touch with a few modern looking skeleton bones, and my kids get so excited to help with the project!  It only took me about an hour or so start to finish to get a cute homemade Skeleton costume!
I found a black top and bottom at Walmart for only $3.88 each, and I bought some Tulip Fabric Paint in white and glow in the dark (affiliate)!  A pretty cute costume to put together for around $20 or less!
For the full step by step instructions and skeleton bone templates, be sure to head on over to HelloBee where I am sharing this full tutorial!
My little guy couldn’t be more excited for Halloween!  He thinks his costume is just the coolest, and he has told me so several times!  That made it all worth it!
He was also so thrilled that it actually glowed in the dark!  I think he’s going to scare a lot of people this Halloween!  Wink.
I added a black beanie and skeleton gloves (You could totally DIY black gloves with the fabric paint) that I found in a set at Walmart, and his classic Chuck Taylor Converse shoes!  You can also paint their face to look like a fun skeleton!
Happy Haunting!  And, Happy DIY Halloween!

DIY // Mary Poppins Costume from your Closet …

DIY Mary Poppins Halloween Costume
I’m back sharing a little bit more about my costume for the Ghouls Night Out Party I shared on my blog last week!
I decided to dress up as Mary Poppins, mainly because I happen to have each of these items in my closet already.  So, I’m not sure what that says about me!  Ha!
How to make a Mary Poppins costume from your Closet
My absolute favorite costumes for me or my kids are the costumes you can put together from items you already own.  I love seeing what we can throw together with regular clothes and transforming them into a costume!  So, here are a few little tips on how to put together a Mary Poppins costume for Halloween!

For a DIY Mary Poppins Costume, you will need:
  • Black Hat
  • Floral Headband
  • Flower Pin
  • Red Bow Tie-  I made one out of felt for a hair bow for my daughter, and used it as a bow tie
  • Red Belt
  • White Button up Collared shirt
  • Pearl Earrings
  • Black Tights
  • Black Booties
  • Umbrella
  • Black Midi Skirt
  • Red Lipstick
I still can’t believe I owned all of these items, and was able to pull an entire Mary Poppins Costume out of my closet!  Well, I did borrow the umbrella, but most of us can pull a black umbrella out of our closets, and that works great too!

So, there you go!  Easy than a downing a spoonful of sugar too!
