homemade caramel sauce recipe

so, i went to this crockpot cooking class a few weeks ago. and, it actually turned out to be very informative. like who knew you can cook a nice looking cake in a crockpot?
but, the best thing i got from the class was the recipe for “dinner in a jar” or a super yummy caramel sauce. it’s pretty much a basic caramel sauce with butter, sugar and such, but i just never thought to make my own. but, seriously the lady called it dinner in a jar, and i was quick to agree because you just find yourself eating it by the spoonful. i made a batch to go with chocolate cake and ice cream and then i decided to make a few jars for my girlfriends when they were over for dinner last night. here’s the recipe.

caramel sauce
1/3 c. butter
1/3 c. heavy whipping cream
1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
2 tbs. light karo syrup

*stir all ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat, just until it boils then remove. super easy.
serve with ice cream, cake, or just eat it plain like i do.* store in the refrigerator [it it lasts that long], and microwave for 20-30 seconds when serving.

I loved it, by the way. Glad you posted the recipe because guess what? Mine never made it to the plate. It went straight from jar, to spoon, to my mouth!!! Doug ate it out of the jar, as well. Dinner in a Jar it is!

I just made this to go on top of my homemade vanilla bean ice cream. It was so quick and easy to make and tastes so good. I'm eating it as I type this comment. Thank you!
