dark chocolate bark with hazelnuts and grey sea salt and a winner…

December 23, 2011

i was in search of a quick and easy last minute treat, when i came across an interesting combination of a nut, sea salt and dark chocolate by my friend jane.

i decided to try mine with dark chocolate, hazelnuts, and grey sea salt.  i had all of the ingredients on hand and it came together quick and easy!

There is really something special about the salty and sweet combination.  I have noticed a big trend of pairing sweets with sea salt!   And, from what I tried, the combination does not disappoint.
If you are looking for a last minute idea for a quick and easy holiday treat, I have the perfect recipe for you and it only has three ingredients!   All you need is dark chocolate, hazelnuts, and grey sea salt!
It is the perfect way to spread some holiday cheer!
{dark chocolate bark with hazelnuts and grey sea salt}
Makes about 4-5 servings
3 cups dark chocolate chips (I used ghirardelli)
1/2 cup toasted hazelnuts, peeled
4-8 pinches coarse grey sea salt
parchment paper
Heat your oven to 350 degrees and place hazelnuts in a baking dish and toast in the oven for about 15 minutes or until fragrant.  Remove from oven and cool, and the peel should come off nicely.
Line a 9×13 inch baking dish with parchment paper.  This will help to remove the bark from the dish after it hardens.
Meanwhile, melt your dark chocolate.
I like to melt mine on the stove top using a sauce pan with simmering water.  Then I take a glass bowl that is just bigger than the sauce pan, and place my chocolate chips inside, and I place the bowl on top of the sauce pan with simmering water.
I stir continually until the chocolate is all melted and smooth with no lumps.
Pour the melted chocolate into your 9×13 inch dish and immediately sprinkle it with your toasted hazelnuts and grey sea salt.
Let the chocolate harden and cool completely.  Takes about an hour.
Once chocolate has completely hardened, break into medium pieces working fast so the warmth of your hands do not heat the chocolate.
Enjoy!
