We are so excited to be back sharing with you the latest Mo Willems book and partnering on a sponsored post with Disney-Hyperion for the #ReadMo ambassador program!
We loved getting some new #MoMail this month including the newly released Mo Willems book It’s Shoe Time! by Bryan Collier. It is part of our favorite Elephant & Piggie Like Reading! Series from Mo Willems!
It is the perfect beginning-reader series in which Mo Willems’ Elephant & Piggie characters introduce readers to new authors and illustrators with great new books. My little Thomas loves that he is able to read the books all by himself these days! He has especially loved reading another Elephant & Piggie Like Reading! book lately: We Are Growing! by Laurie Keller. He thinks it’s just so funny!
The newest book, It’s Shoe Time! is about a young girl who picks out shoes for a fun outing with her father! It redefines what it means to be a pair! It is a beautiful book with rich, rhyming dialog that creates a powerful reading experience!
After reading this book with Thomas it got me thinking about a few struggles we have almost every morning. Getting three kids up and out of the house in time for school each morning is NO JOKE! I have tried to think of ways that will help our mornings go smoother! It seems we are always missing a shoe, matching socks, tracking down clean underwear. It makes our morning a little chaotic and that really sets the tone for the rest of the day.
4 Life-Changing Steps to Foolproof your Kids Daily Outfit Routine:
- The first thing I decided to do in my kids closet was to organize it and take inventory. I got rid of everything that my kids have grown out of, or no longer wear. I always section of their clothes using foam door hangers that I cut a slit in to fit on the clothing rod. I separate long sleeve from short sleeve, sweaters, Sunday clothes. It always helps to locate items quicker!
- Next, I bought a hanging closet organizer with several compartments. The simpler the better, which is why I decided not to do outfits on hangers. That way they can grab and go, and I am not left picking up a pile of hangers left behind. I trimmed the organizer to fit 7 compartments, so it would fit the space perfectly. But, you could definitely fill up more than 7 depending on your needs!
- Then, I picked out outfits for an entire week. Shirt, Pants, Socks, Underwear, so everything is easy to find and in one spot! You can also add the shoes that go with the outfit in the compartment all ready to go! It was so great to outfit plan for my kids this way, and not be in the middle of our morning rush as we normally are. I was able to put more thought into it, and utilize a bunch of their clothing that I always forget they have! I decided not to label each compartment with days of the week to simplify. I simply told my kids, “When you wake up, just pick an outfit out of any one of those cubbies.”
- From now on, I just simply refill the compartments with new outfits as they get used!
We have already been using this new system, and I can’t even tell you how much of a lifesaver it has been each morning! My kids love it, and were so excited to not have to wait around for me to pull an outfit for them, and I am excited to not have to re-dress them in a matching outfit, wink! Our mornings have gone so much smoother, and it is so nice to have a few extra minutes everyday versus running around like a mad woman! I am telling you, every parent should do this! It really makes your life so much easier! I am not sure why I waited so long!
