Winter Destination Vacations are quickly becoming my favorite kind of vacation, and staying in a Vacation Rental for a Winter Destination is the way to go, I am totally sold! I feel like when you are on a summer vacation or a warm weather destination, you aren’t spending a lot of time in your hotel room or lodging. But, a winter weather destination is the type of vacation that you will want to come “home” to a familiar place where you can cozy up by a nice warm fire, and enjoy that time recoup from the activities and weather from the day, and rejuvenate. Having the amenities of a hotel, but the conveniences of a Vacation Rental is the way to go on a Winter Vacation Destination.
Here are 7 Reasons why you’ll want to Book a Wyndham Vacation Rental on your next Winter Vacation:
The Space! We had a very spacious three bedroom condo that we absolutely loved! There was so much room to sprawl out, and my husband and I had our room, two of my kids had a two twin bedroom, and my oldest loved having his own king-sized bedroom! Each room had their own full bathroom, Large mounted TV (the kids loved that!). And, the spacious living room area had a fireplace to cozy up to after a long day of outdoor activities.
I grew up in Utah, but did not grow up in a ski family, or grow up skiing at all actually. In fact, it wasn’t until my freshman year at Brigham Young University that I even skied for the first time. So, it wasn’t until I was 18 years old, when I took a P.E. class at BYU, and learned how to ski, and that started my love of the sport. I ended up getting a season pass, and hitting the slopes after classes, and bringing a book to read on the lift.
The next three years, I taught ski lessons to little kids, and skied a lot during college. I dreamed of marrying a skier, and having skier babies, and ski family vacations. Then, I met my husband, and he had only skied a handful of times, and life went on, we moved to a state with no mountains, and I was either pregnant or nursing for several years, and skiing was on the back burner.
Fast forward a few years, now my kids are all old enough to hit the slopes, and have skied the past few seasons and love it! I got my husband ski lessons for Christmas a few years ago, and now we love to go skiing together! It is such a fun family activity, and I always am trying to talk everyone I know into becoming a Ski Family! There are so many good reasons, and I wanted to give you all of them below!
Here are 15 Reasons to be a Ski Family:
If you live in a state with low temps and a long winter, it helps get you outdoors and active. If you hate the winter, become a skier!
The Great Outdoors. I am a huge lover of the outdoors, and love to spend time in the mountains, it’s my happy place. I love being able to spend that time in the mountains in both the summer and winter. Once you get to the top of the mountain with those breathtaking views, you breath in new life I am convinced. So good for the soul!
You’ll love the snow! When you’re a skier and it snows, it isn’t such a bad thing, in fact, you’ll find yourself praying for it to snow!
Bonding time on the lifts! Skiing is such a great way to spend some time together, you can ski and enjoy your time down the mountain, then chat and catch up on life with conversations on the lifts.
Skiing helps with family support, and teamwork! I can’t tell you how many times my kids root for each other, and help each other up when they fall. They show support for one another out there on the slopes.
Ski Vacations. When I learned to ski, all I wanted in my future was a family of skiers and family ski vacations. There is nothing better than skiing all day, and cozying up in the mountains somewhere with your family. Magical.
Feeling the wind in your hair. Old or young, there is nothing like flying down a beautiful mountain. That adrenaline rush can’t be beat! My kids are smiles all around after a great run!
Pushing yourself. My kids, husband and I all have pushed past our fears, and conquered the mountain all in our own ways. It is a great sense of accomplishment!
It’s never too late to learn. As someone who didn’t learn to ski until the age of 18, I love that there are still things out there that you can just fall in love with that you haven’t tried yet. Take my husband for example, he didn’t really learn to ski until last season, and now he’s loving it. He even has been heading up a time or two before work to get some runs in. I can’t tell you how happy it makes me that he’s converted to the ski life!
Lodge life. There’s nothing better than a day out on the slopes, and building up an appetite and having a minute to sit in the warm lodge with your family and talk about how the day is going over some warm ski food! Usually some cheese fries, and maybe a cookie or two. That’s the type of stuff that becomes a tradition, and a cherished memory.
A great break from technology. With phones, and tablets, and tv being a big distraction among families, especially in those long winter months, it is nice to get a break from electronics and get outside and in nature.
Great Exercise. Skiing is such great exercise! My legs definitely feel it when I ski hard, and you can burn a lot of calories while doing something fun!
A great skill to have. I always tell my children that I am so jealous of them learning to ski at such a young age! I remember being a kid growing up in Utah with all my friends hitting the slopes, and invitations weren’t coming my way since I didn’t know how to ski. It is a great skill to know that you can keep with you all of your life! Like riding a bike!
Family Traditions. We love to head up to the mountains often during ski season, and usually it involves making a stop at our favorite gas station to grab a few treats for the lift, or some hot cocoa. We love the little traditions of being up on the mountain, and playing games on the lift, and inspecting the individual snowflakes that fall on our coats.
And, the best part of being a Ski Family. Skiing is such a fun activity to do together as a family! A great quality time bonding activity that the entire family can do together, and enjoy those memories and experiences for a lifetime!
We recently were able to try out a new Ski Resort that we had not been to before, Solitude Mountain Resort up Big Cottonwood Canyon in Utah.

We enjoyed our time in Irvine, and loved doing some activities that made us feel more like locals than visitors. We had some great recommendations from DestinationIrvine.com, and I’m excited to share some of the fun things we were able to do!
Here are 4 Things to Do in Irvine that make you feel like a Local:
1) Irvine Spectrum:
The Irvine Spectrum is one of California’s most popular shopping and dining destination. They are more than just a place to shop, the Spectrum also has a carousel and a 108 foot tall Giant Wheel designed in Italy. We had a great time riding the Giant Wheel, and walking around the Spectrum. The mall is quite impressive, and is a popular spot to hangout for locals.
The Diamond Jamboree is a multi-cultural dining and shopping experience that brings together many different Asian cuisines and International flavors.
We loved the Diamond Jamboree shopping center! Being a lover of all Asian foods, it was the perfect location for us to grab lunch or dinner while we were in Irvine.
85° C Bakery in Irvine we found was a happening place with all the locals. We went in a few times during our stay and it was always packed with customers.
We discovered some really great Asian style cakes and breads. We let each of our kids pick out a little treat, and they were thrilled. I loved the blueberry cheesecake the best!
We also headed to dinner at Pho Saigon Pearl for some Vietnamese comfort food. Pho noodle soup is a family favorite, and my kids and husband all loved it. Their broth was very flavorful, and I am very picky when it comes to my Pho broth. Their ingredients all were very fresh, and the restaurant was very popular.

I have been on a big Ramen soup kick lately, so when we were at the Diamond Jamboree we came across Ajisen Ramen. We headed there for lunch, and I got the Ramen with Pork and it hit the spot.
Pretend City is a pretend magical interactive “city” for children, where they can play “grown-up” by going to work, buying the groceries, visiting the doctor, collecting their pay from an ATM.
My kids thought it was pretty cool that they could work at a restaurant, and check-out at the grocery store. They punched their timecards and at the end got paid their pretend money. I feel like the museum catered the most to kids about age 2-6, but my 8 year old also had a really fun time!
Irvine Regional Park is not your average park. It is a beautiful public park, but so much to offer! We went on a train ride, paddle boats in the pond, and they also have surrey bikes you can rent. We noticed a lot of locals there enjoying the afternoon at the many playgrounds and walking trails. They also have a small zoo!
This is a great place to stay while visiting California, since it’s not too far from the beach and a quick drive to Disneyland. Irvine is a very nice and safe area, and we really enjoyed our time there!
We couldn’t help but let the kids try out the Photo Booth area in the lobby of the Embassy Suites. Can you even handle Thomas in those nerd glasses?! Ha!
We loved the location, and my kids thought the breakfast buffet and snack time was the best thing ever! They loved picking out their breakfast each morning, and it is great for a family on a budget to have breakfast included! You can spot my cute family eating breakfast if you look really close. My husband is in the yellow shirt.
They have an indoor pool, which is always a favorite of the kids, and I also enjoyed using their fitness center while we were there.
We were able to get a King size suite, which was nice to have a separate room from the kids, and they all slept out on the pull out sofa bed in the living room area. I love having some separate areas and more than one TV to make it feel a little less like travel, and we can all retire for the night without interrupting each other. It was a great place to stay with our young family!
Thank you so much Destination Irvine for all the great recommendations for fun family activities and places to eat, and Embassy Suites Irvine for the lovely stay! (all thoughts an opinions are my own) I can’t wait to come back! (Luckily I have a quick trip back at the end of the month!)
