homemade liquid soap…

October 7, 2008

i had a ton of beautiful soap bars that i bought while in southern france.

i’ve never really used them because i’m not a huge fan of bar soap. so, i came across this recipe on how to make liquid soap from bar soap and i thought i’d give it a try.
i ended up filling up quite a few containers for way cheaper than buying fancy soap. i used my basil soap so i also infused the water in the recipe with fresh basil from my garden to make it have an even more basil scent. if you use plain soap you can do this or add oils like lavender oil for a fragrance and herbs also have an anti-bacterial quality too. i just bought empty pump containers at a craft store and slapped on some labels i made. very chic! great gift ideas too!
{recipe for liquid soap}
ingredients
1 bar soap (6 oz)
1 TBS honey
1 tsp glycerin
water
directions
grate bar of soap into small flakes, pour in blender.
add 1 cup boiling water and whip.
add 1/2 cup room temperature water and stir in blender.
add honey and glycerin, stir.
allow mix to cool (15 minutes) then whip again.
mixture should be 2 cups at this point. Top with cool water until mixture measures between 5 and 6 cups, whip.
pour into containers and allow to cool (do not put lids or caps on yet). [i bought empty pump containers at a craft store]
after an hour, close containers. soap mixture will thicken up.
shake before using as needed.
optional: you can make this with herb infused water, just strain before using.

this is a great idea! i have tons of bars of soap and i hate using them, too. maybe i’ll make this liquid soap and use them to refill all our soap dispensers until they are gone. great money-saving idea, too, in my case. 😉 thanks for all your ingenious ideas!
